Dover Air Force Base Library collection houses a selection of more than 25,000 best sellers, fiction and non-fiction books, video & audio cassettes, and foreign language audiocassettes. We also feature an entire section of books and video cassettes on Total Quality Management. Special collections support the Transition Assistance Program (TAP)
and Professional Military Education (PME). The Juvenile Room has 4,000
books for preschoolers to elementary ages, as well as a computer with
a variety of CD programs available for children. Study tables are located
throughout the library. Other computerized offerings are Facts on File, Newsbank and GALE Database services, which provide indexes, abstracts and full text articles from periodicals. A coin-operated copier is available for customer use.
The reference collection contains bibliographies, indexes, dictionaries,
encyclopedias, atlases, almanacs, and many other factual works. Reference
materials are for “in-house” use only. REFERENCE ASSISTANCE Reference assistance is always available at the circulation desk. If the desk attendant cannot locate the necessary information the question will be referred to the librarian. The librarian works an irregular tour of duty which includes nights and weekends. Interlibrary loan service is available for material not owned by the library. Library orientations are also conducted periodically. Extensive military history collection. Professional reading list titles for Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines including the CSAF Reading List. The Library also supports a wide variety of offices at Dover Air Force Base in obtaining required materials that are needed for them to complete their mission. Online databases include: EBSCOhost (requires account from circulation desk), Infotrac, Morning Star Investment Center, NetLibrary, NewsBank, SIRS Researcher, Web Feet Guides, Stratfor. Journal, magazine and newspaper articles can be easily obtained through these databases to meet your research needs! Planning to take a CLEP or DANTES test? We have an excellent collection of review materials, including study guides, videos and textbooks.

Adult Basic Research Classes - Classes are available to scheduled classes, or for individual help. The individual classes are a thirty-minute session conducted by the Reference Librarian. Preschool Story Time – Wednesday mornings at 10:30 in the Children's Library. Summer Reading Program Trivia Contests – October/November: young adults can test their knowledge of trivia by using the library for a chance at fun prizes. COMPUTERS All of our computers have Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) available for your use. Every computer has a USB connection accessible to save your data to a USB flash drive. Downloadable documents are in Portable Document Format (PDF). These files can be viewed, saved, and printed in identical form on most computers. Adobe Reader is free software for using PDF files. If it is not installed on your computer, you can download it from Adobe Systems. For those who use screen readers, recent versions of Adobe Reader include text-to-speech and other accessibility functions, and Adobe provides online tools that convert PDF files into HTML or ASCII text. |
